The General Assembly of the IMU will meet in Dublin, in the beautiful Concert Hall of the Royal Dublin Society (RDS). Dublin, the historic capital city of the Republic of Ireland, is a UNESCO City of Literature and has twice been named Europe’s Friendliest City by TripAdvisor. A compact city with great transport infrastructure and lots to see and do, it is a world-class destination for meetings and conferences.
The Royal Dublin Society
STEM focused
Any surplus arising from hosting the General Assembly will be ploughed into STEM activities, with an emphasis on mathematics. The Foundation’s STEM activity has two main focuses. The first is the Science Blast, which is an activity for primary school children to build confidence in mathematics and science through hands-on experience. Participation has grown to nearly 20,000 children throughout the Republic and Northern Ireland, and it features inclusivity projects to help children with special educational needs take part. The second is the STEM Learning project, working with primary school teachers from around Ireland to give them content, knowledge, and confidence to deliver engaging and stimulating STEM modules in their classes.
Location
The RDS is set in leafy surroundings just south of the city centre, in an area where participants will find parks, restaurants, and pubs, as well as the embassies of many countries. It is a short walk from the city centre, and from the sea. There are excellent transport links in the area to all points around the city, and to the airport. The immediate vicinity has one of the highest densities of hotel accommodation in Dublin, with several major hotels within a few minutes’ walk of the RDS.
Venue
The day before the General Assembly, the IMU Executive Committee will meet in the bright and spacious Presidents’ Room in the Main Hall of the RDS. The General Assembly itself will meet next door in the RDS Concert Hall. This is a beautiful space with a vaulted ceiling, and walls lined with bookshelves containing historic books and academic journals. It has a capacity for 220 in a classroom-style arrangement, including a large stage and spaces on each side suitable for observers. A state-of-the-art audiovisual system will ensure that the technical specifications of the General Assembly are adhered to. Several smaller, but equally historic, rooms will be available on site for committee meetings.
Gala Dinner and Dublin Experience
The General Assembly delegates will be invited to a complimentary gala dinner. This will take place in the Great Hall on the RDS campus, which dates from 1830. We will also provide delegates with the opportunity to take part in cultural activities, such a walking tour of the city centre, or a visit to the Guinness factory to sample Dublin’s most famous drink while enjoying a stunning view across the city.
